Some numbers are just awe-inspiring and staggering to think about.

Like the number 117,000.

If I recall correctly, that's more than any American stadium of any kind can hold. (And if I'm mistaken, I'm pretty sure the death toll will soon surpass whatever number it would take to make the above statement true.)

That's nearly three dozen times the number of people who perished in the September 11 attacks. (There may well have been enough American tourists and expats among the dead that more Americans may have died as a result of the Asian tsunamis than died in the wreckage of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and all four hijacked airplanes combined.)

Here's an opportunity for America and the rest of the industrialized world - forget all that stuff about who's posturing and who isn't, who's stingy and who isn't - and who's saying what.
